I spent 40 years in the addiction treatment field. Addiction is definitely a type of possession. It feels like possession to the addict. And can disappear overnight once the addict decides to no longer feed the addiction, indicating that the possessing spirit senses the seriousness of the addict, gives up, & leaves. How effective were 12 step programs for helping the addict? I think as a society we are having to rediscover how to break the “spells” and recover our sovereignty…what did you find in all your experience were the most effective ways for people to kick the possession/addiction?
The best way to recover from addiction is to work the 12 steps AND traditions of AA, combined with trauma therapy. Trauma causes addiction. Successful trauma treatment guarantees long term sobriety. I recommend the eye movement therapy called ART, Accelerated Resolution Therapy. It works very fast compared to other eye movement therapies and it actually heals the trauma behind the addiction.
The caveat in 12 step groups is to watch out for people who want to sabotage your sobriety. This has become a problem because the courts send so many unwilling addicts to meetings, where they can really cause problems. You have to choose your meetings carefully—there are MANY good ones, so shop around. Find the “winners”—people who have been sober for 10 years or more, who live according to the steps.
Fortunately 12 step programs are free. There are lots of good meetings online, not just in person. I wish the same could be said for trauma therapy!

How effective were 12 step programs for helping the addict? I think as a society we are having to rediscover how to break the “spells” and recover our sovereignty…what did you find in all your experience were the most effective ways for people to kick the possession/addiction?
The best way to recover from addiction is to work the 12 steps AND traditions of AA, combined with trauma therapy. Trauma causes addiction. Successful trauma treatment guarantees long term sobriety. I recommend the eye movement therapy called ART, Accelerated Resolution Therapy. It works very fast compared to other eye movement therapies and it actually heals the trauma behind the addiction.
The caveat in 12 step groups is to watch out for people who want to sabotage your sobriety. This has become a problem because the courts send so many unwilling addicts to meetings, where they can really cause problems. You have to choose your meetings carefully—there are MANY good ones, so shop around. Find the “winners”—people who have been sober for 10 years or more, who live according to the steps.
Fortunately 12 step programs are free. There are lots of good meetings online, not just in person. I wish the same could be said for trauma therapy!

So for me, I just came to the end of myself & prayed a very short prayer “Lord, if this isn’t of You & if You don’t want this for me or in my life, please take my desire for it.” He was faithful, I hate being around drunk ppl or a lot of alcohol now, I see it for what it is. It’s allowing yourself to be possessed & it’s such a distraction & a trap. I do not want my children thinking getting drunk is ok or “fun”. I have ended up using that same prayer for a couple other things in my life & Holy Spirit has been faithful to help me kick things that are a detriment to my body, mind, heart, soul & spirit🙏🏻😎🙌🏼Hope that helps!

Wanted to add that any ritual of any religion is merely the delivery vehicle of the thought transference, not the source. Religion is essentially a system of societal control. Occult or religious ritual adds gravitas and helps project a feeling of potency. Inviting or calling in, as you point out, is definitely key. The apostle Paul tells me life is difficult, always subject to temptations: “For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do – this I keep on doing.” We are taught how to protect ourselves against spiritual attacks in Ephesians: The Belt of Truth (I choose to live in God’s truth and reject the lies and deceptions of the enemy); The Breastplate of Righteousness (to guard my heart); The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace (help me to stand firm in Your peace and to bring Your peace to others); The Shield of Faith (to extinguish the flaming darts of the enemy); The Helmet of Salvation (to protect my mind, guard my thoughts, to remind me that I belong to You); The Sword of the Spirit (to know and apply Scripture to fight off temptation and live in victory). It’s logical and natural that Satan and evil spirits will (try to) oppress and possess world leaders, corporate bigwigs, the “stars” of film, music and sports … anyone with influence – through them they can influence and deceive great masses of people. Psalm 146 teach me to not put my trust in earthly princes, in human beings who cannot save. Ironic that the Roman Catholic Church is suddenly so “obsessed” with exorcism … maybe they should start with the Vatican itself. More than once I’ve read (and listened to) testimonies of survivors being abused in grotesque Satanic ceremonies in “temples” under the Vatican.
